Seven Opening Analyse

How are Technical, Audio, Visual Codes used in this film to create an effective thriller opening?

The scene creates an effective thriller opening by creating an enigma code with the audience by using extreme close up on key information in the film like the cutting off of fingerprints and uses low key lighting to create an aura of mystery as darkness is usually used to hide things in the shadows in media because the film 'Seven' wants people to ask these questions so they watch the film to find the answers and with these extreme close-ups making the audience uncomfortable, the audience responds with engagement for the film and are intrigued by how the film will answer this enigma code created by out of context imagery and low key light.
The sound in this scene is used to create tension/unease in the opening outlining the tone of the film with the music being mechanical and creepy due to its heavy rock essence/theme making the audience relate the opening with death that heavy rock is famous for as well as the uncomfortable imagery/close-ups.
The use of the notebook  symbolizes planning and when this is put in the backdrop of menacing music and uncomfortable almost gruesome images this gives an audience a sense of dread as whatever is being planned is not good but evil but again is also creating intrigue to the enigma code of what these codes mean making them want to watch the film.
