Gender In The Media

How Gender is Presented In the Media

Men presented in the poster are more prominent then the female character due to there larger size and faces are well known because they are well known actors in the industry, Ryan Gosling known from films like La La Land and The Notebook famous both critically and is the focus point of the poster as it paints him as masculine with the Prop of the gun and the costume of the trench coat/ leather jacket which has been a classic archetype of a "Cool" action hero.
Mean while the woman "Ana De Armas" is passive and small in comparison to Harrison Ford and Ryan Goslings characters, despite being a main component of the plot showing how she is being put in a stereotypical archetype of needing to be protected/saved.

Three types of representations of men are shown in this poster.
Samuel L Jackson, the big shot/the business man as he display's control and status with his costume being a suit/formal wear conveying status.
James Mcavoy's character follows the Jock due to his physical appearance being muscular and having menacing facial features and body language.
Bruce Willis is shown as The Strong Silent Type with his hidden facial features showing him as mysterious character like batman and other reserved characters who take control and keep emotion aside.

This poster use counter type by opposing the typical archetype of women being vulnerable and need to be protected with the use of props (M.E.S) by her holding a gun show her as strong and similar to the common action hero seen in the male models in the previous pictures. However Angelina Jolie is still subjected to sexualisation with her seductive stance due to her being a sex icon.

This poster uses typical female colours pink and purple to show there femininety
